Gronwyn Retreats
Quiet hillside camping with soul, space and views. Off-grid, unhurried and designed for simple, meaningful stays.
About: Gronwyn Retreats is a peaceful off-grid glampsite set halfway up the Breidden Hills in Mid Wales. With long valley views, an open-plan layout and a quiet sense of space, it’s a place for slowing down, switching off and reconnecting with your surroundings.
The campsite is based on a gently sloping hillside with generous pitches and views that shift with every step. From your tent you can gaze up to Moel y Golfa, towards the surrounding forest, or out across the valley to Long Mountain. A quiet ruin of a stone cottage sits in the meadow itself. The landscape here sets the pace; open, restful and always changing with the seasons.
Gronwyn is a bring-your-own-tent site, with pitches roughly 10 by 10 metres and spaced to offer privacy without losing the feel of the wider landscape. You’re welcome to pitch wherever suits you best on arrival. If you’re coming with friends, just let us know and we’re happy to help arrange neighbouring spots.
Facilities are simple but thoughtful. There’s a hot shower fed from our own spring, a clean and odour-free compost toilet, a cold-water washing-up station and a communal firepit with hand-built benches. Small BBQs and personal firepits are welcome, and we offer sustainably sourced firewood for sale. A shared charging point and strong Wi-Fi are available when needed, although many guests find they’re happy to unplug entirely.
The camping area of the site is car-free, with parking in the adjacent field and a short walk to the pitching area. We’re always happy to lend a hand with your gear if needed.
We’re surrounded by walking routes and quiet adventures. You can reach the summits of Moel y Golfa or Middletown Hill in about 30 minutes from your tent, with Rodney’s Pillar just across the valley. Nearby you’ll also find Border Quad Trekking, cosy village pubs and the bustling town of Shrewsbury, just 25 minutes away. Fancy the coast? The beaches of Aberystwyth, Barmouth and Harlech are just over an hour’s drive and make for a brilliant day out. Gronwyn Retreats is about simple living, fresh air and time well spent. All are welcome here, whether you’re coming with friends, little ones, or just looking for a quiet solo reset. You’ll find space to breathe, thoughtful touches and the kind of welcome that makes you feel at home, just a little further from it.
Worth Noting: We’re a bring-your-own-tent site. No campervans sadly due to access. Parking is nearby with a short walk into the meadow - and we’re happy to help with bags. A compost loo, hot spring-fed shower and plenty of space to slow down.
