About: Hidden away in a secluded valley near Crewkerne in South Somerset, Wytch Wood Camping offers up to 15 camping pitches and 2 glamping options. Named as one of Time Out’s top UK campsites, Wytch Wood has also won a Silver award for Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism from the Bristol Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards 2023.

The camping ground is nestled in a mix of habitats on the edge of ancient woodland, offering up to 15 tent pitches - five of which can also be used for campervans. Choose a pitch in the dappled shade of 100 year old beech trees or one nestled on the edge of a wildflower meadow. All are perfect for a spot of bird watching or star-gazing and of course chats around the campfire. All our pitches have their own personality and you can find images of them, as well as check availability and book online via the booking pages of our website. New for 2023 – all pitches now have their own compost loo, seating area and firepit with grill.

As with all Greener Camping Club sites, we aim to have as little impact on the environment as possible. You’ll be drinking filtered spring water from one of the uppermost tributaries of the River Axe. Guests have use of three low-flow hot showers - all with clear roofs so you can see up to the sky while you enjoy the water and the beautiful scents of the Faith in Nature products which we supply. Washing up stations with hot water and biodegradable washing up liquid and soaps are supplied, to make things a little bit easier - along with comprehensive recycling facilities.

We are excited to introduce two glamping options for your stay this summer, each differing in size to suit your needs.

  • Skyview, is a 5m high sided bell tent with a completely clear roof, so you can enjoy the woodland outside from the comfort of a fully furnished home from home.
  • Birdsong, is a 6m high sided bell tent set up above the stream and looking out into the forest. Beautifully furnished and equipped, you’ll have your own outdoor kitchen and even a private shower.

Both tents are made up ready for your stay with fresh linen, towels and all the essentials. They each have their own kitchen with everything you need for your stay. Plus are managed with the same eco-credentials as the rest of the site.

Tent hire – we have two high-sided clear roof bell tents for hire – a 4m and a 5m. The same design as our Skyview tent, they offer an amazing space for your next stay. These can be booked for your pitch, and will be put up ready for your arrival – taking the hassle out of your stay! You will still need to bring your own camping gear but they offer a great alternative if you want to camp but are short on space in your current tent.

We continue to work hard to make your stay even better. The site now has a covered communal area which has power sockets (please note - no electric hook ups) so you can charge your devices or keep your milk cold in the communal fridge.

We’ve also have food and drink on site, with a fresh barista made coffee in the mornings and bar with local brews in the evening. We now make woodfired pizzas cooked to order, in our onsite oven every Saturday night too.

Activities – try your hand at activities like archery and axe-throwing, bushcraft and woodland skills, foraging, forest crafts, and yoga. All our suppliers are local as we aim to keep travel and food miles to a minimum. Keep an eye on our events calendar as we build up a diary of food and activities across the year.

The campsite is car-free. Weather permitting you may drive to your pitch to unload your gear, otherwise wheelbarrows are available if the ground is too wet. We accept up to five, small campervans unless we have had significant rainfall.

The campsite is set on Blackmore Farm, home to the Newman family since 1963. No intensive methods are used on the farm which is a mix of grazing land, woodland and some wilder areas offering a varied environment for natural flora and fauna to flourish. You can explore on foot via the several footpaths which cross the farm and we are developing additional walking trails for exclusive use of guests. Unfortunately because of the proximity to wildlife in the woodland and livestock on the farm, we cannot accept dogs at this time.

Very much a working farm, we run a flock of over 300 breeding ewes, producing high quality lambs for the meat trade. We welcome enquiries from guests for our farm bred lamb. A number of equestrian businesses are also present on the farm including a licensed National Hunt Racing stable. There is always lots to see and tours can be arranged for interested campers. We look forward to meeting you!
