Oakwood West Estate Camping
Find your perfect hideaway in our re-natured woodland, before exploring the delights of the surrounding Sussex countryside and coastline.
About: At Oakwood West Estate, you will find yourself in a secluded corner of the Sussex countryside. Our wooded camping and glamping site is nestled between the South Downs and the sea and is perfect for walking, cycling or sandy beach days at West Wittering.
Experience life amongst the trees with mornings full of birdsong and days rich with wildlife & adventure. Deer might wander past as you light the fire to make a nourishing breakfast. Then refresh with a hot shower and enjoy the beautiful array of flora and fauna that live in our re-natured woodland. Majestic birds of prey including barn owls, kites and buzzards soar through the sky as butterflies flit on the breeze. It's a place for meditation & escapism.
Camping at Oakwood West is for those with a love of the great outdoors. Choose from a range of pitches amongst the trees and get closer to nature. Make a campfire the heart of your stay with one of our designated fire pits and enjoy the full taste of flame grilled food using our sustainable charcoal (produced on-site). Lie back in a hammock and relax as you immerse yourself in the environment around you before whiling away an evening with your companions as the sounds of the woodland emerge and the stars ascend.
For those looking for a little more luxury, stay in our beautifully appointed Woodland Wagon with its own outdoor kitchen and covered porch, perfect for enjoying a good book and the surroundings whatever the weather.
As far as possible we like to keep things local so please do make the most of our nearby pubs, a short walk across the fields (The Horse & Groom ¼ mile and The Richmond Arms ¾ mile).
For those wishing to stretch their legs a little further, nearby excursions include everything from historic city visits to Chichester or Portsmouth, shows at the Chichester Festival Theatre, local vineyard tours, a variety of museums and seaside villages. Other notable events include nearby Goodwood Festival of Speed, Goodwood Revival and racecourse.
Back on the estate we place great emphasis on maintaining a low environmental impact. You will find well-kept composting loos, recycling facilities and a leave no trace policy. We feel this considerate approach benefits all our guests and encourages nature to come closer during your stay.
As part of your visit please also enquire for tours or courses covering mindfulness and meditation, wildlife conservation, guided foraging as well as a variety of traditional and seasonal crafts.
As proud members of ‘Grown in Britain’ some homegrown produce is available for purchase while on site including seasoned firewood at £10 per barrow and charcoal at £10 large / £8 small bags.
All timber used to construct our buildings and structures has been grown and milled on site including the facility hut and picnic benches – even the sawdust flush for the compost toilets is a reused byproduct of this process!
Worth Noting: We can not accepts pets due to the sensitive nature of surrounding woodland. Any fires/BBQs are strictly controlled within designated areas. During some weather conditions, fires may be prohibited to avoid the risk of forest fire. Please don’t forage for wood from the surrounding area as this may be valuable habitat. It is important to note that the site area forms part of a working woodland and seasonal activities may be taking place at a safe distance.
